The Livermore Valley is ripe with wineries. In fact, there are so many quality wineries in Livermore, CA that the Livermore Valley Wine Country offers itinerary planners and suggested tours so vino enthusiasts can make the most of their visit. Here are 8 wineries in Livermore CA that we find particularly enticing.
Check Out These Wineries in Livermore, CA
The name says it all. Founders Steve Burman, Steve Melander and Steve Ziganti were friends and part-owners of a boutique winery before founding their own label.
The Steves open their winery every weekend and promise at least one of them will be there to show you around, serve you in a tasting, and generally share their passion for vino. This is one of the wineries in Livermore CA that also offers picnicking areas and welcomes pets.
Big White House
This winery focuses on Rhone-type varieties, created small-lot luxury wines “of rare quality.” Big White House is one of two labels here, the other being John Evans Cellars. Although this is one of the wineries in Livermore CA that prides itself on luxury, the labels put all their efforts into the product rather than the props. The tasting room is informal and intimate. Winemaker John Evan Marion is usually available in the tasting room to guide you.
This winery has roots in family history as well as local history. Owners Brett and Monique honor their ancestral vintner BoaVentura Baptiste de Caires with their handcrafted wines. Like most wineries in Livermore, CA, the scenery here is outstanding. However, this winery’s three microclimates and diverse terroir add complexity to the otherwise unpretentious wines.
Still, grapes require a climate that typically yields stunning landscapes, and the views at The Caires Estate is no exception.
Concannon Vineyard is one of the wineries in Livermore, CA offering the most variety in tasting and touring experiences. Several private, guided tastings are available, each hosted by a Concannon Estate Ambassador.
This is exactly the type of experience you might imagine from an established winery on a historic estate–although the atmosphere at tastings is relaxed.
The tasting room and gardens at this winery are lovely and relaxing. Owners Nancy and Garry operate one of the largest California Native Gardens in Livermore Valley on the property, which you can enjoy as you sample the estate wines.
Their website explains, “The gardens, along with the neighboring horses, allow you to escape the stresses of daily life and enjoy the natural area around you.”
Ruby Hill Winery aims to grow and source the best grapes around. Ruby Hill wines are balanced and approachable, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
As is typical, you can sample Ruby Hill wines in the spacious tasting room. But if you’re up for something different—and incredibly enjoyable—try their Mello Cielo Vineyard Experience.
The Mello Cielo Vineyard Experience is a two-hour excursion through the vineyards and winery production facilities. Of course, the tour includes plenty of wine sampling. A sit-down food and wine pairing is included at the historic water tower. Choose from two Mello Cielo Vineyard Experiences daily, 11:15AM and 2:15PM for $35 per guest. Tours should be reserved at least one week in advance.

Fun fact: The Ruby Hill Tasting Room birthed Rubino Estates Winery. The three families who started at Ruby Hill opened Rubino Estates Winery in 2013.
Like Ruby Hill, you can enjoy a distinctly unique touring experience on the USS Rubino Duck Boat! This isn’t just any ‘ole winery tour… it’s an adventure! Tour Captains turn back the pages of history and guide you into the vineyard. Throughout your journey, you’ll learn all about Rubino’s viticulture and wine-making practices, taste their award-winning wines and enjoy a delicious food and wine pairing. Duck tour participants must be 21 years or older.
This is another of the wineries in Livermore, CA that offers extensive tastings and tours in two areas, the Estate Tasting Room and the Vineyard Tasting Room.
Estate room tours include views of the equipment in operation, alongside private and group tastings. Here you’ll enjoy small lot wines specially handcrafted by Fifth Generation Winemaker Karl Wente.
At the Vineyard Tasting Room, historic sandstone caves are part of the tour. You’ll also get to enjoy a special tasting either indoors or on the Terrace Patio during spring and summer months.
